About espace@Curtin - Curtin University's institutional repository

What is espace@Curtin?

espace is an open access digital institutional repository for the research and scholarly output of Curtin staff, students and affiliates. Repository content can be searched and accessed on the web by other researchers and by the public. espace preserves Curtin's research output and increases its exposure and impact by making it visible and freely available through open access services such as Google, Trove and OAIster (a world wide catalog of digital resources).

Initially, espace@Curtin ran on GNU EPrints open archive software and now runs on the ExLibris product DigiTool.

Who can contribute?

Authorised staff, students and affiliates of Curtin can contribute their research output to espace@Curtin. See the Contribute section for more detail and for information about how to contribute.

What is included in espace@Curtin?

Research output of Curtin staff, students and affiliates can be included in espace@Curtin. This includes:
  • Journal articles
  • Conference papers
  • Newspaper or magazine articles
  • Book chapters
  • Books
  • Technical reports
  • Research papers/reports
  • Discussion papers
  • Working papers
  • Theses (as submitted by the student to the Library)
  • Computer programs
  • Data sets
espace@Curtin provides bibliographic details (metadata) such as author, title, publication date, abstract, etc. about material in the repository and, where copyright permissions allow, the full text of items is also available. Some research output in espace may not have full text content available because of copyright restrictions. The full text is included only if:
  • The author retains the copyright for the material and allows it to be included in espace; or
  • The copyright agreement between the publisher and the author allows for deposit into an institutional repository, or
  • Permission to deposit the paper in espace has been granted by the publisher on request.
In many cases, publisher policies will allow full text to be accessible through institutional repositories. Some publishers may not allow the use of the published version but may allow authors to make the author final version available (the postprint). For more information about copyright issues, see What about copyright? in the Contribute section.
